1.5 Captions

•All photographs, whether in a photo story or otherwise, should have captions. This includes all images in ‘Talking albums’.

○Exception: if there are many photographs but very little text – say 7-10 photos but less than 200-300 words – we can dispense with the strap as well as captions. And the text in such stories – though serving as captions – will not be italicised. See, for example, A wedding in Niyamgiri on the website

•All other captions should be in italics and left aligned (that is, starting at the left end below the photo).

•If a non-English word occurs in the caption, it will be in roman font or within single quotes (as in the straplines); this is possible right now and not subject to redesign.

•There will be no line space between the caption and the bottom of the photo.

•There will be no full stop at the end of a caption.

•Character limit: around 140-150 for a single line.
