2.13 Gender issues: more details on this will follow after a while in PARI’s ‘Legal Codes’ in Part II of these guidelines. The following is only a partial outline:
>Be sensitive to content related to gender issues. For example, in cases of sexual violence, the woman/girl will not be identified, nor will any identifiers such as the location of her home in the village, be used.
>If a case of sexual violence under investigation or in the courts is mentioned in a story, the details must be absolutely factual.
>Terms like “eve teasing” should not be used – the correct term is sexual harassment.
>Avoid stereotyping and gendered language: “fair sex”, “women’s nimble fingers,” etc.
